Committee's Task (Dean Louise Smith, Feb 10, 2003)
Chancellor Gora and Provost Fonteyn have
appointed Ellen Hume, a former journalist and an experienced writer and teacher
on journalism and communication, as Senior Research Fellow in the American Studies
Department. Ellen's role is to consult with members of CLA and CPCS regarding
the curriculum in Communication Studies that UMB might offer in the future.
I am requesting that you serve as a planning committee to help Ellen and Mark
with this work and to become acquainted with our college culture and its processes.
At a later date, I would like to bring other members of the UMB community into
the conversation. But for now, a smaller group will be easier to convene, and
will be more helpful in planning. This is an exciting opportunity for us to
grow in interesting directions.
